Israeli forces on Tuesday targeted at least two United Nations facilities in East Jerusalem, escalating their ongoing crackdown on the U.N. agency responsible for supporting Palestinian refugees. According to officials from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), Israeli crews began bulldozing the organization’s offices in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, while tear gas was fired at a vocational training school in Qalandia.

Roland Friedrich, UNRWA’s director in the West Bank, said demolition crews and police arrived early in the morning at the agency’s East Jerusalem headquarters. Although staff had not been operating from the building for nearly a year due to security concerns, Israeli forces reportedly confiscated equipment and expelled private guards assigned to protect the site. Friedrich described the actions as a serious violation of international law, which grants special protection to U.N. facilities.

Later in the day, tear gas was deployed at a UNRWA vocational school that serves more than 300 young refugees learning technical skills such as welding and information technology. Local Palestinian authorities reported that several children were affected by the gas, and one teenager was injured by a rubber bullet.

Israeli military forces carried out an attack on a makeshift tent shelter in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, killing at least three Palestinians and wounding several others, according to local emergency responders.

The Palestinian Civil Defence said rescue teams recovered the bodies of three family members after their tent was hit, while three others were injured, including one in critical condition. In a separate incident, Israeli fire killed an 11-year-old Palestinian girl in Jabalia, northern Gaza, highlighting the ongoing civilian toll.

The attacks occurred despite a United States-brokered ceasefire that came into effect in October. Gaza’s Health Ministry reports that at least 425 Palestinians have been killed and more than 1,200 wounded in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire began.

Hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians are living in fragile tent camps across Gaza after their homes were destroyed. Humanitarian organisations, including Doctors Without Borders (MSF), warn that harsh winter weather, flooding, and restricted aid access are causing widespread illness, especially among children and the elderly.

Aid groups say Israel continues to restrict the entry of essential supplies and limit humanitarian operations, placing already vulnerable civilians at greater risk.

Israeli forces said they targeted “military infrastructure” in Beit Lahia, while hospitals in Gaza confirmed receiving multiple bodies, including those of children. The IDF claimed it had killed 25 fighters in the past 24 hours but did not address the remaining civilian deaths.

The renewed strikes shattered the brief sense of relief Palestinians had felt since the ceasefire. Humanitarian officials described the situation as “catastrophic,” warning that the escalation casts serious doubt on Israel’s commitment to the truce.
